Learner Draftsman (Mechanical)

  • Experience as an Artisan or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering qualification is preferred.
  • 0-2 years’ drafting experience, will be an advantage.
  • Experience in 3D modelling (any software).
  • Be able to work independently once the training is received.
  • First-hand experience of driving to get tasks done. Be able to share by means of examples.
  • Good insight into how mechanical equipment works.
  • A basic understanding of the equipment mentioned in the work description below.
  • Valid driver’s license with own transport (Code B / EB).


The work will comprise of the creation of engineering drawings of petrochemical equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, structures, mechanical machinery and replacement parts, to mention a few.  Site measurements will be required to ensure that the equipment we design will fit on the existing interfacing equipment.  The work may include working abnormal hours from time to time as determined by the work scheduling.

Assistant Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Minimum of B Eng/BSc Eng degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in detail design, drafting or modelling will be an advantage.
  • Above average insight into the mechanical operation of machines and equipment.  Candidates to demonstrate their abilities by means of examples and their ability to explain this with the help of on-the-spot freehand sketches.
  • First-hand experience of driving to get tasks done.  Be able to share by means of examples.
  • Leadership and organizational skills, be able to work independently and in a team, self-starter, “go-getter”.
  • Good interpersonal relations with the ability to market services.
  • Good report writing skills in the English language.
  • Organized and self-disciplined.
  • Valid driver’s license with own transport (Code B/EB).


Assistant engineers will be exposed to the detail design and engineering of new plants and of solutions to problems experienced with machinery and pressurized equipment in the petrochemical field.  Design work will involve the use of various software tools and will also require the engineer to perform calculations based on first principles.
